The beloved, Domiciana Echon Edjan, was born in the 1920s and lived a joyful life into 2020. Married to Gregorio Edjan Sr, they were blessed with three children: Greg Jr, Eddie, and Norma, three in laws: Deanna, Marilou and Angelo Sr, and seven grandchildren: Giselle, Gwynn, Kareen, Elaine, Carla, Phoebe, and Angelo Jr. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. To some, she is known as “Ca Dom,” “Tia Dom,” or “Lola.” To most of us, she is “Nanay.”
She will be remembered as a compassionate woman, full of unconditional love, who loved others through her kindness and nurture. She was a strong-willed fighter who pushed through anything in her way. She kept herself busy at home but enjoyed spending time watching the Golden State Warrior games on tv, sewing up tapestry, and eating ube ice cream. She was everyone’s babysitter who loved all the kids as her own. She was known to make the best Filipino desserts (like tinupak and suman) for events. She took care of her garden every morning and fed us with vegetables that she grew herself. She made “merienda” (like coffee and toasted pandesal) for the tong-it games. She made sure everyone was taken care of. She was everyone’s mom and taught us how to be good caring people. She also had the best sniffle kisses.
She will be missed by anyone who was lucky enough to have her step into their lives. Nanay may be gone, but she will forever be remembered through our memories and in our hearts.
