Edmund "Ed" Ernst Gunther passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family July 15, 2020. Ed was born April 2, 1926, in Saline, MI., to Elsie Gunther. At the age of 18, Ed was drafted into the Army during World War II in which he serviced in the 70th Infantry Division. After serving his time in the army, Ed returned home and attended Eastern Michigan University. It was during college when he met his wife, Joan Gunther; the two were married in 1953.
He is proceeded in death by his wife; mother; daughter, Margaret St. Clair; son, Thomas Gunther; and his three older sisters. He is survived by his remaining children, Jean Groh (Robert) of Petaluma, Calif., Constance Conlin of Saline, Paul Gunther (Jen Ripple) of Ann Arbor and son-in-law Gerald St. Clair. Ed was a wonderful and supportive grandfather to his five grandchildren, Craig (Julia), Hannah, Julie, and Joelle.
Ed was an active and devoted member of the German Park Recreation Club for over 50 years. He served on board as a Treasurer for many years. A true 'Mr. Fix-it', and always thinking with his engineer mind, there was not a problem Ed could not solve or a device he couldn't repair. He was a meticulous man with an acute attention to detail. He was very generous with his time and was always willing lend a hand to family or friends with any home projects.
Holidays and birthdays were always a big part of Ed's life that he spent with family; he never missed a moment to celebrate with food, drinks, laughter, and love. After Joan died, Ed continued the tradition and would host all family events and would even do the cooking. Ed was a remarkable man, father and friend and one we will forever miss.
The family will be celebrating Ed's life with a private service.
