Wa Asinya Wiya “Woman Who Heals”

On Monday, July 13, 2020, Wanda Gladys Prettyshield (nee Thomson) loving wife and mother passed away peacefully at the age of 80.
Wanda was born on September 27, 1939 to Archie and Clara (Klyne) Thomson in Wolseley, Saskatchewan. Wanda resided on Carry The Kettle and married Raymond Prettyshield and had four children, Garth, Kyle, and twins Tania and Telly. Wanda worked as a Community Health Nurse with Health Canada from 1984 to 1993 and with Carry The Kettle Health Clinic from 1993 to 2014 when she retired. Wanda developed the first home care program on Carry The Kettle. She helped design the current clinic and was also responsible for developing the first health board. On May, 2008 she was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the YWCA-Women of Distinction. Her work as an RN was recognized by the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association for her exemplary nursing knowledge and expertise and outstanding contributions to her community. Wanda enjoyed travelling all over Canada, listening to her abundant collection of old country & western records, sewing, canning, reading her Bible, and watching the sunset from her deck. She was always available anytime for medical help or advice.
Wanda was predeceased by her husband Raymond, parents; Archie and Clara Thomson, brothers; Gilbert, George, Urban and Billy, sister; Marjorie.
She is survived by her children Garth, Kyle (Elaine), Tania, Telly, her brothers; Duncan (Linda), Robert (Donna), and Ivan (Fairlene), sisters; Irene, Violet, and Agnes (Barry), numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A private viewing was held at Tubman Cremation and Funeral services in Wolseley, Saskatchewan on Thursday, July 16 from 7pm to 8pm. Graveside service was held at South Cemetery on Carry The Kettle First Nation on Friday, July 17 at 1:00 pm with Ron Mrychka officiating.
