To my knowledge and perhaps faded memory, I first became aware of Edy when she and John got married.....on the very day of my 45th Sexton HS reunion.  But after that event,  I came to realize that she had narrowly missed being a direct part of my life since my youth.  As Sexton students, Edy's sister Dawn and I had shared a few classes.  Via the winds of fate, Dawn had become linked to the family of my sometime school pal Bud Maxey; Bud's mother and my mother were in the same neighborhood bridge club or some such.  Alas, I paid no attention to my mother's tales, and so Edy was a total and absolute surprise when I finally met her about 50 years later.  Wow! What a grand and delightful person!  How I wished  that I could have listened to my mother and met Edy way back then.  But no matter, really.....our warm Edy quickly made me feel that we had  indeed been close  friends for a lifetime, and ditto for Edy and my beloved wife Raye.....who immediately loved Edy as much as did I.  What a joy to have had Edy as a good friend, no matter how long delayed.  I miss her, miss her, miss her.

To John and all of Edy's family.  I am so sadden to hear of Edy's passing.  I have so many fond memories of her. Edy was such a positive force of energy always finding ways to make life fulfilling and fun.  I enjoyed snow and water skiing with her.  One of many very fond memories is the calls I would get on a beautiful day at work, where she would say are you up for skiing on the river and of course I would say yes and there would be a group of us skiing and enjoying the best of times.  Then there was the Jackson Hole race camps where we would challenge each other on the race course. Edy and John had such a wonderful relationship and I always looked up to their love and respect for each other.  What a joy to be around them.  John and family may your hearts be filled with all the warm memories of fun activities and family gatherings. I will so miss your warm smile Edy.

I met Aunt Edy in December, 1991, the day I married her nephew John Erickson in Philadelphia. The next time I saw her was at her own wedding in Michigan in 1993. My few interactions with her combined with the stories I've heard over the years plus these testimonials confirm that Aunt Edy was a beautiful woman inside and out. Spirited, active and welcoming, she was a bright spot and she will be missed.

Her Christmas letters read like travelogues and I was exhausted just reading about her and John's activities and travel schedule. 

We would all do well to live life so fully.

My favorite vacations were always the ones where we would visit Grandma Edy and Grandpa John.  As a child, i would sit on the bathroom counter in the mornings while grandma got ready doing her hair and make up. She was and will always be my inspiration for doing my own hair and make up just like she showed me all those years ago. We have so many amazing memories riding bikes with her, tubing on the boat at the cottage, and skiing in Wyoming. Edy was the most active, strong, and loving grandmother i could of ever asked for. 

Thank you for always loving us Grandma. Thank you for showing me how beautiful both Wyoming and Michigan are. 
I hope each one of us lives our life’s with the love of adventure like you always did. I miss you always and love you so much. 

Aunt Edy was such a lovely, lively, welcoming person. I was one of the many kids she taught to ski and I still love to ski! She will always have a special place in my heart.  Here she is with my Mom,  her sister Dawn, last Feb. 

Among other memories of Edie is a comment she made about my skiing - I had asked her for any thoughts she had on my technique and she noted that I did not ski a mountain as much as physically overpower it - a nice way to tell me that I had no real technique whatsooever.  Rest in peace my friend.

Wonderful memories of kayaking, biking, and even some shared time at Jackson Hole.    But we will always remember how graciously Edy dealt with no longer being able to do those things she loved.  She found other things to do.  An inspiration!

We've known Edy and John for many years through the United States Power Squadron in Traverse City.  We shared many dinners together at the Squadron meetings and have always enjoyed their company and were always amazed how active both were for many years.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Her laugh. Her laugh embodied fun, enjoyment and optimism and always made me feel welcome.  We had a lot of fun going to her house as kids - playing a real pin ball machine, learning how to water ski on the Thornapple River, and when I was very young shopping at a fancy department store and picking out a plastic snake somehow - maybe because it was pink?!  Always proud and inspired to have an aunt who was a strong woman in body and spirit.  Heartfelt love to cousins, family and John. (Photo with her sister, my mom, Dawn). 

We truly enjoyed knowing Edy. She was such a kind and caring person! We were able to experience Jackson Hole because of her generous sharing of the condo and, even though she could no longer ski, she took delight in knowing we were having fun. She went sailing on Lake Michigan with us; getting on and off the boat was a bit troublesome for her, but she graciously accepted help to do so. She marveled at the boat, expressed her joy about being out on the open water, and happiness for us. We will remember her fondly. Our sincere condolences to John and families.

Monte and I met Edy in race camp in Jackson Hole. She always had a smile on her face, especially when she was racing downhill. We loved her kind spirit and generous ways. She will be missed. Our love to John and the rest of the family. Gail & Monte Kvittem
