Peggy Corgan passed peacefully at home on July 16, 2020, with family near. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Chuck Corgan on January 4, 2020. She is survived by children Gary Corgan (Susan), Lisa Moore, and Cele Monto (Martin), 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Peggy’s indomitable spirit could be seen throughout her life. She graduated from Jefferson High School with honors and received a national design award that took her to Paris in 1950. Despite her father’s disdain, she enrolled in university and graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA with a degree in fashion design. Peggy began a remarkable career in sportswear design and specialized in swimwear at Jantzen. In 1955 she met the love of her life, Chuck Corgan. They were married for 65 years. They enjoyed extensive travel abroad, with Paris being her first trip and favorite destination. Peggy’s last trip to Paris was in 2011, where she celebrated her wedding anniversary with champagne under the Eiffel Tower.
In addition to her career, Peggy was involved in numerous organizations. She volunteered with the Portland Art Museum for 60 years and was dedicated to the arts in Portland. She was also involved with the Center for Performing Arts, the Fashion Group, Sewing Group, and her church. Peggy was intelligent, fun, and enjoyed life immensely.
A graveside service for family is planned. Donations in Peggy’s memory may be made to the Portland Art Museum.
