Ricardo Gonzalez was born in Havana Cuba on May 12, 1940. During his time in Cuba, he and his younger sister, Miriam, were lovingly raised by their hard working parents Ricardo and Bartolome (Irene). When he was of age to work, after completing the 8th grade, Ricardo worked at a local pharmacy and delivered goods on his bike. He remained in Cuba until political unrest became the norm.
Upon settling in the United States, Ricardo enlisted in the Army and served fighting for the country he loved dearly. He met Sharon Burrous while stationed in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. They were married a year later. After his years of service, he trained as an apprentice and became a carpenter. Over the course of a few years, they had four children (Rick, Tammy, Scott, and David) and eventually settled in Naples, Florida. Ricardo’s family meant everything to him. He was truly a wonderful father and dedicated husband. His constant outpouring of love for his family and others were the evidence of his relationship with Jesus Christ. His love for life, his joyous laughter and warm heart for others are just a few of his many attributes.
When Ricardo wasn’t working on home projects or spending time with his family, you could always find him in deep study of the Bible in his prayer closet. Once he became a grandfather, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren on walks, swimming, fishing, and involving them in some of his woodworking projects. He always loved creating special memories with all of his thirteen grandchildren.
Once he reached his professional retirement, he and Sharon moved to Huntersville, North Carolina, and then to Mooresville, for additional family support. Although his memory was diminishing, his joy, his unending love, and his sweet spirit were always a constant. He went home to be with his Savior on July 18, 2020.
Ricardo Gonzalez is survived by his wife, Sharon; His sister Miriam Astiazarain (Ernesto); His children and their respective spouses, Rick Gonzalez (Cherie), Tammy Martinez (Roland), Scott Gonzalez (Amy), and David Gonzalez (Jennifer). Ricardo is also survived by his grandchildren, Caleb Gonzalez, Colby Gonzalez, Teagen Gonzalez, Marissa Pierce (Ryan), Mandy Martinez, Abi Martinez, Brianna Martinez, Cai Martinez, Lucas Martinez, Zoe Gonzalez, Levi Scott Gonzalez, Andrew Gonzalez, and Bradley Gonzalez.
