After over two years of a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and a triumph over lymphoma a few years before that, Barry Keith Green passed away on July 17, 2020. He left this Earth in the way we all hope to: surrounded by family and having said as many goodbyes as possible.
Barry was born September 4, 1955, at Travis Air Force Base Hospital in California to Lt. Keith Green and Elizabeth Ann Cantrell Green. He had his early schooling in Stratford, TX, later transferring to Dalhart where he graduated salutatorian of the Class of 1974.
While in high school, Barry was Drum Major for the Golden Wolves Band his senior year. He was remembered for his show-stopping finish at the end of each halftime show which saw him doing a backward flip from a mini-trampoline. He earned his pilot’s license just before his driver’s license and later served as a volunteer member of the Civil Air Patrol.
Barry was accepted into the Plan II Honors at the University of Texas and graduated cum laude in 1978. He studied law at the University of Houston Law and was the Managing Editor of the Houston Law Review. He achieved a J.D. Magna Cum Laude in 1981.
Always the performer, Barry made his living as a singer in local venues throughout college and law school. He continued in his love for music by singing bass for the Bar and Grill Singers, a non-profit group of singing lawyers who benefit volunteer legal services for those in need. His was the kind of deep voice that could shake walls at the proper pitch. If you’ve ever heard Barry’s voice you’re sure to never forget it. He learned every type of instrument he could get his hands on, including but not limited to the guitar, banjo, trumpet, baritone, and harmonica.
Barry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Zoe Green; son, Ryan Green; and daughter, Kaitlynn Green; his mother, Elizabeth Cantrell Green Flamm; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Sandra Green; brother and sister-in-law, Malcolm and Marjorie Green; sister and brother-in-law, Erin and Mark Tanner; and brother and sister-in-law Kyle and Carrie Green.
A memorial will take place on the morning of September 4, 2020, at Bethany United Methodist Church in Austin, TX, and will also be live streamed.
