Jerry A. Theodoratos, passed away at home on July 20, 2020 surrounded by all of his loving family.
Born in New York City on July 29, 1944 to Constance and Jerry Theodoratos, Sr.,
he grew up on the West End of Manhattan and attended the Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he was an altar boy for many years. He attended New York city public schools and then
graduated from NYU majoring in economics. While in college, given his natural music ability, Jerry and his four best friends started the “Levendiko Pende” band, playing the drums, entertaining thousands of dancers at numerous events during that era. After college, he began working at Robert Moore as a commodity broker on Wall Street.
Using his interest in sales and love of interacting with people, Jerry changed direction and became a wholesale Mediterranean food broker. He was a regional sales manager at several companies on both coasts for over 40 years.
In 1969, Jerry met the love of his life, Tina Liatsos, at a Hellenic University dinner dance. They married on November 7, 1971 and made a life together in Riverdale, New York, where their two older children were born. They moved to California in 1979 and had their third child.
The Theodoratos family became members of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Northridge, California, raising their children in this loving community, making countless friends. Jerry reigned as “Captain Calamari” for over 30 years at the church’s Valley Greek Festival.
Always a charmer, with a kind word to say about everybody, Jerry had an infectious smile and was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren; his true pride and joy. He had a clever sense of humor and was a devoted food connoisseur. He loved travelling, music, dancing, meeting new people and learning about other cultures. He will be remembered for his generous and loving heart, and his zest for life. Jerry and Tina shared nearly 49 wonderful years of marriage.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife Tina, his cherished children Jason and Kristine Theodoratos, Dana and David Manpearl, Marisa and Ben Azra; his six precious grandchildren Constantine and Olivia Theodoratos, Sofia and Luke Manpearl, Theodore & Gavin Azra; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Helene and Zaf Tsimahides, as well as numerous cousins and friends. His legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren, and all who knew him.
May his memory be eternal.
A private family funeral will be held at St. Nicholas Church.
Graveside services will be held after the funeral for family and friends at Oakwood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in his name to
