Robert Carl Winsor , of Phoenix, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2020 after suffering a heart-attack. He was 91 years old. “Bob” was born on May 3, 1929, in Phoenix, Arizona to Joseph Carl Winsor & Millicent Kirkham, and was the oldest of seven children. He was married as a young man, which blessed him with his 10 cherished children. On June 10, 2000, at the age of 71, he married his sweetheart, Vida Thude. They were such a beautiful example of selfless love and service to one
another. He delighted in his children and grandchildren, and truly rejoiced as his posterity increased. Bob was a barber by profession, but he was often employed by others as a painter, brick-layer, builder, or anything else involving hard work and skilled hands. Anything his mind could conjur, his hands could create. He loved nature and was a true cowboy and farmer at heart. He loved keeping bees, growing a
garden, and working in his yard, which was what he was doing the morning of his passing. He was never one to be idle. As his agility declined, he took up quilting and expressed excitement in learning a new skill. Bob never met a stranger and dearly loved people. He had a cheerful energy about life and relationships and found such joy in mingling. Through life’s crushing adversities, he was never heard to complain. He simply and privately adjusted his way of living, and humbly pressed on.
Bob had an unwavering love and faith in the Savior Jesus Christ, and was dedicated to His service. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, at the age of 8, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. On his 20th birthday, he entered the Mission Training Center to serve a full-time mission, in Sacramento, California. While raising his family, he held many other church callings. Later, he and his wife served as directors of the Phoenix Stake Family History Library, for 8 years. He was an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple, and also served in the Mesa Temple. To celebrate his 90th birthday, he was baptized and confirmed, on behalf of 107 individuals, in the Phoenix Temple, which was a tender experience for all who were witnesses. There has never been anyone more passionate about temple work, and we are certain there was quite a welcoming on the other side of the veil. One of Bob’s most beautiful gifts was that of no guile. Truly, he was meek, as a little child, and has been received by loving, Heavenly Parents. “...Verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as a little child, ye shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3-4)
Bob is survived by his angel wife, Vida, his children Kaylin Oldfather-Clark (Den), Kathy Bourgeous (Dan), Brian Winsor (Micki), Mark Winsor (Shelly), Renae Mears, Richard Winsor (Lorel), Annette Winsor, Irene Hunt (Alan) and Millie Owens (Robert). He has 47 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings, Carlene Decker (Orville), Mary Lynn Driggs (Don), Kenneth Winsor (Greta) & Linda Openshaw (Doc). He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Jo Ann Brookshire and Elaine Pressley, his son, Kerry Dean Winsor, and his great-grandson, Samuel Jeremiah Acuna.
