strength. Born June 21, 1929, to Steven and Lizzie Troupe, in Courtland, Alabama, she was the youngest of four daughters. Memories of her childhood render thoughts of her father working in the fields on the farm, pulling her along as she rode upon his cotton-sack. Not considering her a burden he carried her with pride, endeavoring to build within her character, virtue and strength in preparation for her future, teaching her discipline and perseverance through faith. Looking back it was like a playful game to her - riding along with her father. Just being with him brought them both joy as she witnessed his inner strength and faultless devotion. At that time she couldn't yet know that GOD's hand was upon her life, building within her - character, strength of will, and endurance, qualities she would need to bear a family of seven later in life.
Her father was a man of integrity, humble, yet proud of his family of girls, never shrinking from the responsibility of caring for them. By the sweat of his brow he worked diligently, encouraging and cherishing each one, teaching them the essence of faith, family, and the benefits of hard work. Qualities she would come to exemplify as she blossomed in the beauty of GOD's grace.
Believing and accepting Christ at an early age, GOD instilled the virtues of faith within her and in the
fullness of time she met and married Oscar Lee Hunter on November 2nd, 1944, who served in the armed
forces during WW II. During his tour of duty overseas, the years proved difficult for her, one so naive
bringing up a large family on her own. Over the years she gave birth to seven children; five boys and 2
girls, Oscar Lee Hunter II, Michael, Patricia, Allen, Melvin, Barry and Gloria. Devotedly, her children were
her purpose and joy. Broken hearted, she seemed to have lost just one of her brood, but trust and faith in
GOD proved Him faithful in saving that precious soul.
She was a very resourceful woman, diligently doing her best to secure the wellbeing of her family. They later moved to Cleveland, Ohio where they were blessed and established a foundation of faith. She was employed by a number of organizations, eventually establishing her tenure at the Federal Reserve Corporation, where she was employed for a number of years prior to retiring. During her later years, life's journey drew her to the tranquil city of Grand Prairie, Texas, where she settled and enjoyed a more peaceful life with her family. Richly blessed, she honorably served within her church and community, building endearing relationships with family, friends and neighbors. She loved music and aspired to learn and play piano and organ. Among her favorite songs was "Peace Be Still", always inspiring her towards deeper faith in GOD, moving her to tears at times, each tear cleansing and strengthening her walk with Christ, Her passion and love of GOD and family is what motivated her, driving her to overcome and strive for a brighter future. Through faith and determination she selflessly placed the needs of her family before her own, enduring many hardships, but always trusting in GOD's provision for a better future. Throughout her ninety-one years she led by example, seeking GOD's purpose, diligently teaching her children the love of GOD and His amazing grace. In her later years she battled the torrents of dementia holding onto 'The Masters Hand', who in His infinite grace brought peace to her struggle and mercifully carried her home.
She is survived and cherished by a host of loving children, grand and great, great-grand children extending to a blessed fifth generation. From one small seed GOD grew a nation. As one small seed Lula endured. Rearing a family of seven; each manifesting the gift that GOD uniquely formed within them. Each one distinct, strengthened beyond measure, empowered by the Holy Spirit, each a glorious gift from GOD. Bonded together in faith, rooted and growing in the love of Christ Jesus. One small seed, uniquely fashioned by GOD's grace, designed and endowed by His Holy Spirit she endured and overcame great obstacles, never truly aware of the inner strength GOD created within her, establishing her as the matriarch of her family, honored and cherished by all she met, becoming that pearl of great price - GOD named her “Pearl”.
