Roger Dale Smith, age 64, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 after battling degenerative brain disease. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee July 5, 1956, to Roger Rondel Smith (deceased) and Judith Martin.
Dale grew up in Donelson, TN and graduated from McGavock High School in 1974 where he was top five in his class and made senior superlatives. He was a gifted artist, but also played football and the highlight of his senior year was making it to the Clinic Bowl State Championship game. He attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville where he studied graphic design.
Dale was blessed to meet and marry Shirley Smith on July 22, 1989. They just celebrated 31 years of marriage with a cozy dinner at Captain D’s. Dale was blessed with a son, Dylan, who was born on December 7, 1993. Dale got to see him marry Shannon last summer.
Dale loved his family. He had three sisters, Sharon Burroughs (Brad), Renee Martin and Tina Perez (Jonathan) and one brother, James O’Dell “Odie”. He had brother in laws, Sam Brown (Kimberly), sister in laws, Sharon Brown (already deceased) and Rhonda Brown. He loved all of his nieces and nephews, Samuel, John, Chad, Chelsea, Chandler, Ashley, Haley, Lacey, Odie Jr and Maddie.
He had his own painting company in his early years, was in management with A-Tech refrigeration repair and due to loss of his vision, retired, but continued to substitute teach to stay busy.
A member of Long Hollow Baptist Church, he served as Deacon, was “Dynamite Dale” in children’s church, and taught Sunday School. He also served as Deacon at Grace Park Church in White House, Tennessee. One of his proudest achievements was helping found “Christmas for the Children”.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Long Hollow Baptist Church, Hendersonville with visitation starting at 10:00 am.
