Dallas was born in 1936 in Kings County, New Brunswick, son to the late Jennie and Medley Mason. Dallas joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1955 at the young age of 19. He was a proud member of the Canadian Airborne Regiment and the Royal Canadian Artillery. He served two tours in Germany in the 1960s and 1970s and was stationed throughout his career at various Canadian Forces Bases across Canada, all the while with his children and wife in tow. He retired after a long and distinguished career as Captain D.F. Mason, CD, on August 1, 1991.
Dallas was an avid reader, old western movie buff, hunter and fisherman. He loved music and Sunday mornings tuned into the local western music programming. He also loved to sing old songs to his children and grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for those songs along with his quick wit, his one-liners and his knowledge of many little known facts. He was a loving “dad” to his children and “gramps” and “papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dallas was predeceased by his parents, five sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his brother David Mason. He will live on in the hearts of his three children: Susan (Michael), Mitchell (Sandra) and Cheryl (David); ten grandchildren: Lloyd, Cody, Alexander (Nicole), William (Amanda), Emily, Alexandra, Clayton, Lindsey (Brad), Kadey, Chelsey (John); six great-grandchildren: Kayla, Adeline, Dawsyn, Jagger, Brooke, Callahan and Ledger and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Parkland Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020. The officiant will be Pastor Doug Hanson-Torwalt.
