Eldon George Lindenau, 83, of Olympia passed away in his home on July 24, 2020. He was born in Olympia on January 6, 1937 and was preceded in death by his mother Elda (Bellis), father George Lindenau, and sister, Arda (Lindenau) Glandon.
Eldon served proudly in the US Navy Submarine Service as a torpedoman from 1955-1968 serving on several submarines and traveling the world. He loved to cook, bake, fish and play guitar. He was a longshoreman, well-driller, carpenter and shipwright, and quite the craftsman, but his passion was to sail, row, canoe and kayak the South Sound waters in the many wooden boats he built himself and others he renovated.
Eldon and his wife Vivian met in 1975 and were together for over 44 years. They married in 1984. Eldon is survived by his wife Vivian (Smegal) Lindenau and their daughter Theresa Lindenau of Belgrade, Montana; a daughter Karen Vargas and son Ken Lindenau of Taos, New Mexico by his wife Irene (Vargas) who preceded him in death; grandchildren, Cassie, Mollie and Emily; brother-in-law Gary Glandon of Montesano and nephew Andrew Glandon and niece Lindee (Glandon) Bly, and brothers-in-law Joe, Jim, Jeff and Tom Smegal and many other nephews and nieces. He loved his family and will be sadly missed. Eldon was a private man in his later years and did not want any funeral services.
