Just say the name and you begin to think, “I’ve got a good Paul story to tell you”. He was a Philly boy known as Paulie, born to Italian immigrants Salvatore and Giovannina in Tacony, PA on July 22, 1934. He was the 8th child completing the family of four boys and four girls.
Paul went Home to be with our Lord on Monday, July 27, 2020 surrounded by his family. His last four weeks on earth were spent being cared for and loved on by relatives and friends near and far…in person and over the phone. He is survived by his wife, Georgette; son, Paul Jr.; daughter, Cathleen; daughter, Shirley; daughter, Ruth; son, Jim (Lisa); daughter, Georgetty; son, Anthony (Kristina); son, Phillip; sister, Elizabeth McConnell; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Paul was a hard worker his entire life and started working in a bakery at 13 years old. He later bought the bakery at 18 years old and started to thrive in business. In his young 20’s he opened up a Breakfast and Hoagie shop called “Poor Boys”, and later added to that business by having a few “Lunch Trucks” on the road servicing factories in NE Philly. In the 60’s he moved to South Florida and was a part of the JM Family running JM Car Wash, until one day he decided to own his own business again by starting a Janitorial Company called “Menditto’s Cleaning Service”. Paul landed accounts with several country clubs, restaurants, and office buildings. He always provided for his family and sacrificed to pay for Private Christian School Education and College. He loved to work so much that he worked until he was 81!
He attended First Baptist Church of Ft. Lauderdale, of which he humbly taught a class called “New Beginnings” from 1980 – 2007; and was involved in several ministries they had (Feast of Plenty / Christmas Pageants). He also loved and supported Word of Life Ministries and participated in multiple mission trips to Europe. Paul never met a stranger. He was a humble friend to many. He would talk to anyone and sought to tell them about his love for Jesus, God’s son, and how Christ changed his life when he was 25 years old.
When you walked into his house, there was always room at his table for you along with great food, lots of laughter, and encouragement. He loved his family whole-heartedly. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, cooking, singing praise music, watching the sunset, walking the beach, camping at Walt Disney Ft Wilderness, naps, listening to Frank Sinatra, and telling stories. Although he proudly made the best pizza and hoagie…there was never one he ate that he did not like!
Paul had little sayings but the one most revered was “make much of God’s Son and He will make much of you”. Please leave your thoughts and memories, as we all reflect on the man, that was known as Paul, Paulie, Honey, Poppy, Uncle Petey, Cuz, Daddy, and Pop! We love you and as Paul always said…”I’ll Say Thanks To You”!
