On Wednesday, July 29, 2020, Edward Bacon, loving husband, and father of two children, passed away at the age of 78. Ed was born on April 11, 1942, in Fort Worth, TX to Rolla and Johnnie Bacon. He received his accounting degree from the University of North Texas in 1965, he earned his CPA in 1966, and he worked for Exxon for 35 years. On June 1, 1964, he married Lynn Craven. They raised two daughters, Allyson and Kristin.
Ed had a strong faith in Jesus as evidenced by his commitment to Austin Oaks Church, serving by counting money, and writing to prisoners. He helped start the Between Jobs Ministry at Northwest Bible Church in Houston that assisted over 10,000 people in finding jobs. He was a faithful leader in Bible Study Fellowship and multiple church small groups in Houston and Austin.
Ed’s favorite things included smoking and grilling meats, fishing, pheasant hunting, hamburgers, milkshakes, the gym, watching his grandchildren do anything, spoiling his grandchildren, weekly calls with his brother, saving money, tennis, friends that served together, weekends at the lake, frying turkeys on the driveway, bull markets, the Antique Road Show, Keen sandals, the beach, education, exhorting others, punctuality, counting money, Cowboys’ games, Morningstar dot com, drinking coffee on the porch, paying bills, cool mornings, warm hugs, responsible people, and especially his family.
Ed was preceded in death by his friend and brother, Paul Bacon, his father, Rolla, his mother, Johnnie, and son-in-law Walid Trad. Ed is survived by his loving wife Lynn who he loved, encouraged, and understood. Ed’s honest, hard-working, selfless character was passed on to daughter Allyson Marshall, her husband Mike, daughter Kristin Trad, and five grandchildren Luke Marshall, Max Marshall, Jack Marshall, Kate Marshall, and Raina Trad.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 7, 2020, in the courtyard of Austin Oaks Church at 9 o’clock am. The service will be outside. Seating will be socially distanced. Antibacterial gel will be available. Please wear your own facemask. Due to COVID restrictions, there will not be food provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Austin Oaks Church in his memory either by check payable to Austin Oaks Church and put in memory of Ed Bacon on the memo line or online at https://austinoaks.ccbchurch.com/goto/giving, select “benevolence fund”.
