Edwin J. Olowin, Jr., age 71, from Erie, PA, went to be with his Lord Jesus on July 27, 2020. He is survived by his brother, Michael Olowin, sister-in-law, Lila Olowin, Goddaughter, Amanda Olowin, nephew, Christopher Olowin and niece, Teresa Olowin.
Edwin and his parents moved to Florida in 1952. Since then, he had always called Florida his home. As a child, he attended St. Francis Catholic School in Riviera Beach, and then attended Cardinal Newman High School and graduated class of 1966. From there, he attended the University of Florida where he attained a degree in Pharmacy. While there, he was an active member of Blue Key. After graduation, he worked as the hospital pharmacist at Shands Hospital for over a decade. Later he worked at Eckerd Drugs/CVS for over 30 years. During the past few years, he was a pharmacist at Okeechobee Drugs.
Edwin was an active member of the Jaycees for several decades, where he received the highest rank of honor as a Jaycee Senator. Over the past 18 years, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4999 and past Grand Knight. He was an active member, always helping with Bingo, Dinner Dances, Breakfasts, Fundraisers, Scholarships and any and everything that needed to be done. Ed was the one who always volunteered to show up and help first!
Edwin was truly a good and faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was very active in his church. At St. Patrick Catholic Church, he was a religious education teacher for 14 years, where he taught catechism classes for students in preparation for Confirmation. He was always helping at the church in any way he could; from serving as a lector, or an usher to organizing a pancake breakfast for the youth choir or volunteering for the church golf tournament. He also helped annually at the St. Francis Church flea market. Edwin was always there to help a friend or a family member with anything they needed. He was the embodiment of a perfect “gentleman” and a “true friend” to all he met.
He especially loved his family. Spending time at breakfast with his family after mass on Sunday and sharing holidays, special occasions and attending events with his family were the most special times for him! He was always encouraging his niece and nephew to follow their dreams and gently reminded them of the importance of hard work and studying while in school.
Faith and family were the center of his life. Everyone who knew him was better off for having him in their lives. His kindness, generosity, loving spirit and deep faith that he shared with all, are the beautiful legacy that he leaves behind.
Visitation for Edwin will be held at the Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral Cremation and Event Center, 754 US Highway 1, North Palm Beach, FL 33408 on Thursday, August 6th from 4-6 pm, with a prayer service at 5:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 7th at 10:30 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 13591 Prosperity Farms Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410. A Burial will follow the Mass at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, 5601 Greenwood Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
