Joan was born January 13, 1934 in Stuart, Iowa, to Edward Leo Stinn and Bertha G. Kronfuss. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1952. She was one of nine children: Hedy McQuade (deceased), Vernon Stinn (deceased), Sr. Carmelita Stinn, Marita Duggan (deceased), Edward Stinn Jr. (deceased), Angela Jacobs, Jerry Stinn (deceased), and Dennis Stinn.
Joan married the love of her life, Marvin Charles Nehring in April 1967. Together they resided in Grandview, Missouri until Marvin passed away on January, 25 1977. She is survived by her children Diane LeValley, Jean (Sam) Lombardo, Thea (Tom) Weinandt, Philip (Rebecca) Nehring and Theresa (Boyd) Shotton. Her grandchildren, Kirk (Angela) LeValley, Michele (John) Skowronski, Sheri (Rick) Nichols, Kristy (Chad) Surratt, Brad Sullins, Abby (Preston) Johnson, T.J. (Katie) Weinandt, Zach (Carli) Weinandt, Dalton Nehring, Rachel Nehring, Madelyn Shotton and Cale Shotton; 17 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Her career began after high school working for the telephone company until she got married. Next, Joan worked for Zarda Dairy Ice Cream while raising her family. Later, she worked for Hush Puppy Shoes and in retirement, part-time at Klahn Accounting as a receptionist, Bank Midwest serving popcorn and as a crossing guard for the Meadowmere Elementary School.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin, four of her siblings and great-grandson Jacob Skowronski.
Joan was loved by many, especially her nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, Frank Sinatra and Bourbon & Seven. She was very active in her church in Grandview, volunteering with the altar rosary, church sacristan, eucharist minister, and visiting the elderly. Joan always made time to pray and talk on the phone. She would often say “You can call me anything, but don’t call me too late to eat or drink!”
Visitation will be held July 30 from 4-6 p.m. at Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green, Missouri. Under the direction of McGilley and George Funeral Home a second visitation will be held at Coronation of Our Lady Parish 13000 Bennington Ave. Grandview, Missouri on August 4 at 10 a.m., followed with the Rosary and Funeral Mass. She will be laid to rest next to her love, Marvin, at the Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, Missouri.
