Don proudly graduated with his class in 1953 from Providence College as the first of his family to attend.
Don was a veteran of the United Stated Army. After his service, he began his career as a Medical Laboratory Director at several Rhode Island hospitals and served as VP of Operations for New England Medical Laboratory.
Given Don's curious and pioneering spirit, he headed for the White Mountains to open the Country Inn, in Bartlett, NH and to later share ownership in a restaurant called Black Beard's Cafe, in North Conway, NH.
Don returned to the Ocean State in 1993 to reside in Bristol where he lived his remaining years. While living in Bristol Don worked as the Director of Laboratory Operations at the Bristol Medical Center.
It was in Bristol where Don reignited his passion for sailing. He shared laughs and lessons on the seas with those he loved. He was especially proud of the skills he shared with his young apprentice and Best Friend, Jim Stewart.
As a practicing Buddhist, Don was a master of the breath and mindfulness. In retirement, Don tought the practice of mindful breathing and took pleasure in passing this skill along to friends, family, and his students who partook in his classes at the local Barrington Senior Center.
Along with Don's many passions, his involvement and participation with his Sangha group, The Mind Tamers, was incredibly helpful to his mental and physical health. It is here he coordinated and welcomed new members. He formed deep relationships and it did not take long to refer to his fellow Sangha members as his family.
Don's children held his unconditional and never ending love. This was obvious to whom ever had the pleasure to converse with Don as he spoke of his kids often. He is survived by his six children; Anne Marie Meegan, Kathleen Meegan, Connor Meegan, Patrick Meegan, David Meegan, and Keith Dutton, four grandchildren; Eli De St Jorre, Kyle, Tyler, and Kayla Meegan, his three brothers; Garey, Michael, and Joseph Meegan, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joan Gubata.
There will be a ceremony in Don's honor at a later date where friends and family will be welcomed to share in celebration of his life.
