Richard E. Hammond Jr, 63, of Milford, ME formerly of Norwalk, CT passed away, August 15, 2020 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was fondly known as “Rit” and grew up in Norwalk, loving the Long Island Sound. He was a master craftsman of copper and slate roofing.
In his leisure time, Rit enjoyed bowling and often scored over 200. He was also a Class A British Darts Champion and an avid NASCAR fan.
After relocating to Maine in 2001, he became a driver for Old Town Taxi and was known as “the human GPS” and became the favorite of the college students and local community patrons. He is also known by those close to him for his perfect gift wrapping. He was a member of the local American Legion Post #75 and VFW Post #3381.
Rit is leaving behind his wife of 23 years, Maureen Hammond of Milford, ME, his son Richard E. Hammond III of Danbury CT, two step-sons Sean Corvino and wife Heather of Clintwood, VA and Brian Corvino of Milford, ME, brother Paul Hammond of Norwalk, CT, step-mother Eloisa Hammond of Fairfield, CT, sister-in-law Cheryl Kelly of Old Town, ME, brother-in-law Richard Kelly of Stratford, CT, four grand children Conner Lawson of Holden, ME, Kenleigh Corvino of Clintwood, VA, Liam and Meleena Borders-Corvino of Bangor, ME, and a fifth grandchild due any day now, Qiyanna Borders-Corvino, nieces Morning Star, Katie Ann, and Tyler Ann, nephews Ricky, Shane, Gary, and Michael. As well as several cousins and friends.
Rit was pre-deceased by his loving parents Richard E. Hammond and Judith Dysenroth Hammond of CT, and stepson Lydon E. Cacavollia.
Rit will be interred at the Lucy Poolaw Cemetery on Indian Island and a Celebration of his life will be held at noon on September 5th at 16 Water St. in Milford, ME
