Betty G. Stiles, age 90, of Swansea and Englewood, Florida passed away, Monday, August 31, 2020 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester, MA. She was the wife of the late Allan W. Stiles to whom she had been married for 64 years.
Born in Rushville, Indiana, daughter of the late Warren and Dorothy (Parker) Gilson, she had been a resident of Swansea since 1962. A graduate of Mays High School in Rush County, Indiana, class of 1948, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1952 from Indiana State University.
Mrs. Stiles was a teacher at the White Church Day School. She was an active member of the First Christian Congregational Church, and served as Church Secretary for many years. She worked at the annual Autumn Fair for many years in the Country Store, and donated jars of home grown horseradish. In addition, she was a member of the Fall River Women’s Union and the Coles River Club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, travelling with her husband and friends, and looked forward to spending winters at her home in Florida.
She is survived by three children: Stephanie Eddleston and her husband Mark of Coventry, Rhode Island, Laura Stiles and her companion Richard Costello of Johnston, Rhode Island, Mark Stiles of Raynham, Massachusetts, two sisters: Marilyn Mauzy of Columbus, Indiana, and Nancy Gookins and her husband Hank of Bargersville, Indiana, three grandchildren; Joshua, Justin, and Lindsay Stiles all of Milford, Massachusetts, and several nieces and nephews.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, her funeral and burial will be private. Contributions in her honor may be made to the First Christian Congregational Church Organ Restoration Fund. 1113 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea, MA 02777.
