Ernest Paul Jones, age 67, of Chicago, Illinois, was born into life on November 28, 1952, and born into eternity on Thursday, September 3, 2020. Ernest was the loving son of the late Andrew & Margaret Jones who preceded him in death. He was the beloved brother of 'Andrea F. King of Lima, Ohio, Robin (Dexter) Watson, sister-in-law Carole Jones and the late William M. Jones. He graduated from Evanston Township High School, Kalamazoo College, and most recently Chicago State University. He was, at present, a ministerial student of the Johnnie Coleman Institute.
Ernest was a successful coach-leader during his career that span over three decades of Public Relations, education, and broadcasting on stations like, NBC-TV, WMAQ Radio Group, WVON, iHeart WCSU Radio at Chicago State University and other major stations. Ernest appeared in the major television series The Chi and Empire, and in the movie Barbershop 2. He did commercials for Sprite/Coca Cola, Respiratory Health Management of Chicago, Alzheimer Foundation, Columbia College, Triton College, Evanston Township High School, DePaul University, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the National Guard in Illinois as well as the Smithsonian Museum. Ernest hosted several radio broadcasts including MenuZine(R), Women and Minority Report, and the Bachelorette and Bachelor’s Forum.
Ernest was a Baritone and Bass Soloist, and avid member of The African American Network of The Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO). He was a long time member of Christ Universal Temple where he served in the Temple Ensemble and prayer ministry. He often sang The National Anthem at Chicago Bulls, Chicago Sky, and Chicago Blackhawk games. Ernest proudly said, "I helped the CSO build a network of Blacks who enjoyed European Classical Music."
Uncle Ernie, as he was fondly called, is also survived by eight nieces and nephews; Aaron (Marjorie) and George King III; Dexter II, Amber and Ryan Watson; Ashley, Jeffrey and Jeremy (Kaitlyn) Jones. He was also the caring grand uncle of five. He leaves to mourn several aunts and uncles, cousins, and fond friends.
Ernest always wanted to share his love for life, people, family and friends. He shared many creative ideas, great motivational quotes, and took his family on many social outings. One of the things he often said was, “It is just a change of mind to find perfection in everything you do.”
A special memorial service for Ernest will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020. The wake will begin at 10 a.m. and the memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Please check back here for Live Streaming details to come.
