John Miller Jr. was born November 30, 1938 in Jennings, Louisiana. He was the second child and first son to Viola and John Miller Sr.
John graduated from Jeff Davis High School and joined the United States Air Force at the age of eighteen. There, he served with distinction for 26 years. After retiring from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant, John received his Master of Social Work degree from California State University, Sacramento. John worked and later retired after a career as an Investigator for Sacramento County Child Protective Services.
Accepting Christ as his savior, John was baptized at the Fort Bend Church under the leadership of Pastor Byron Stephenson. As John’s voice was shared through song, he was a vibrant member of the Men’s Chorus.
John loved to travel. However, when he was at home, he loved to cook and entertain friends and family.
John is preceded in death by his mother, Viola Jacobs, father, John Miller Sr., and daughter, Michelle Faye Miller. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 11 years, Monica Miller, two sons, Jacoby Miller (Dawn) and John Miller, two daughters, Vicki Mann and Robin Miller, two stepchildren, Marcus Davis (Yolanda) and Bianca Norwood (Royale), sister, Dorothy Barr, brother, Alton Miller (Michelle), mother-in-law, Levorn Ross (Barnett), father-in-law, Charles Reynolds (Digna), grandchildren, Jasmine Miller, Jacoby Miller Jr., Jaylen Miller, Johnie Miller, Monique Reed, Vanessa Reed, Siagi Mann, Lanier Dangerfield lll, Ma’Kayla Trevino, and Monica Davis, great grandchildren Shaniyah Miller, Darryl Miller lll, Andrew Chambers and Avery Chambers. In addition, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who truly loved him.
A visitation for John will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A celebration of life will occur Wednesday, September 16, 2020 from 11:30 AM to 1:15 PM with a committal service to follow at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
