Bill was born in Mattoon, Illinois on August 25, 1945 to William Edwin McCollum Sr. and Mary Ellen Music. He graduated from Mattoon High School in 1963. After graduation, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp from 1963-1967 serving in The Vietnam War.
Upon returning home, he found the love of his life, Carol Nevins, at the Dog N Suds restaurant where their love instantly flourished into the sounds of wedding bells. In June 1968, they were blessed with the birth of their twin sons.
Bill held many jobs, but he was the most proud when wearing the badge as an officer of law-enforcement both in Illinois and Texas.
Bill’s absolute favorite hobby of all time was fishing. He spent many years on the water with his wife and sons whether it was for leisure or for a tournament.
Bill and Carol’s dream was to live at the lake, which they made come true in 2015 in Milam, Texas. Many memories were made there with family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James McCollum and his sister, Virginia Ryan Roy. He is survived by his wife Carol and his two sons: Robert H. McCollum and wife Denice of Alachua, Florida, Chad McCollum and wife Michele of Spring Texas. Bill was also survived by his brother Robert L. McCollum of Hemphill, Texas and his sister Mary Lou Matthews of Mattoon, Illinois. He is survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill can be remembered for his humor and always joking around and will be deeply missed by everyone who has ever known or loved him.
