Dot was born on October 13, 1934 in Ord, NE, to Louis and Cecilia Blaha. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Ord, where she met her best friend and the love of her life, Jerry Maurice. Dot was a cheerleader in high school and cheered Jerry on in his numerous sporting activities. Dot and Jerry were married February 25, 1953 in Ord, NE.
While Jerry was in the service, Dot worked as a secretary. After the service, Jerry began his career in the grocery business in Ord, where their first daughter, Carol, was born. Jerry’s job then took the family to Loup City, NE. A few years later their second and third children, Jan and Robert, were born. Soon after, the family made a move to Hastings, NE. As their children got older, Dot became the Teenage Program Director at the YWCA. In 1973 they moved to Scottsbluff, NE where Jerry continued his career with Nash Finch Company as a district manager. Dot stayed at home to care for the family and their fourth child, Suzanne, was born.
The family then moved to Denver, CO for a short time and then onto Fargo, ND. After Jerry received a promotion, they moved back to Nebraska, where Dot started her long career in retail at Miller & Paine and Dillard’s in Lincoln. Jerry’s final promotion led them to Minneapolis, MN, she then started working at Nordstrom at the Mall of America. Dot worked in the Petite’s department and became a top seller and customer favorite.
Upon their retirement, they ditched their snow shovels and headed west to Sun Lakes, Arizona for unlimited sun and relaxation. In their retired life they enjoyed golfing, socializing with friends, and experiencing the joys of grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to Jerry and their four children, Dot is survived by 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Dot was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner at St. Steven’s Catholic Church in Sun Lakes, Arizona.
