Virginia Sue (Mahaney) Nichols or known by all as Sue, was born on December 4th, 1940 in Park Hill, OK. She is the daughter of Johnnie Elmer and Carrie E. (Post) Mahaney. Sue was raised in the Oklahoma City area with one brother, Jay and a sister Carrie. She was a graduate of Classen High School, class of 1957. She later would marry Dale Nichols in Ada, OK on October 1, 1971. Together they raised eight children; they were her pride and joy. She absolutely loved being a mother and made them her top priority. After the family made the move to Tahlequah, Sue went back to school at Northeastern State University and graduated with honors in 1988 with her Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. It showed to prove that no matter what Sue set forth to accomplish, she would excel. Though a bit stubborn and headstrong, that drive made her the amazing person she was. Sue was beautiful inside and out and never failed to bring laughter to those around her. Her smile and quick wit was contagious. Any free time she had was spent with her kids and grandbabies. This fun loving lady loved her little red convertible, a Chrysler Lebaron. One of the best memories is how excited she was to master the making of potato candy. Her children had enough candy to last for months. Sue was the go-to person for everything. Whether an ear to listen, a lawyer to go to bat for you or a safe haven with a shoulder to cry on; whatever you needed, she was it. On the morning of September 15, 2020, Sue passed on from this life at her home in Tahlequah, surrounded by family. Sue was one of kind and will be missed by the many that loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dale Nichols, her sister, Carrie Ann Mahaney, brother, Jay Mahaney and one grandson, Joshua Allen Vance.
She is survived by her four sons, Gary McGregor and wife Amy, Greg McGregor, Mike McGregor, all of Tahlequah, OK, and Terry Dale and wife Teresa of Ada, OK, four daughters, Susan Greenhaw and husband Joe Dale of Park Hill, OK, Cary Weir and husband Mike of Bunch, OK, Jana Philpott and husband JR of Tahlequah, OK and Dayna Hefley of Coalgate, OK. Her memory lives on though her fifteen grandchildren, Dustin Gilmore, Megan Sequiche-Wadsack, Chris Dry, Lance McGregor, Jared Philpott, Timber Hefley, Kayce Hinds, Jacob Daugherty, Brandon McGregor, Jaley Philpott, Carley Weir, Talon Hefley, Justin Daugherty, Trayzr Hefley, Garret Weir and Noah Vance, eight great-grandchildren, Harper Gilmore, Echo Gilmore, Vega Philpott, Coupe Philpott, Vivian Hinds, Anzlie McGregor, Anna Hefley and Christian Dry and lifelong best friend, Mary Holman of Asher, OK as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.
