1914-2020
Albert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather whose life was snuffed out by COVID-19. He had a zest for life and never gave up.
Confined to a nursing home during the last two years of his life, he was always looking forward to his next birthday. He would have been 106 years old December the eighth. It is hard to believe that his life was ended by an invisible virus 0.125th the size of a tiny micron only visible by an electron microscope. It has been hard for us to accept his death. No matter. Albert was a “born again” follower of Jesus Christ. He longed to see his one and only wife, Vivian (Nettles) who passed away in 1992 after their 55th anniversary. They are together again at last along with their only son, Dr. Ronald Maddux, a beloved Milton, Florida surgeon who passed away November 2017.
Al worked for National Airlines 35 years before he retired as its senior agent in Pensacola. He liked to fish when he was young. He became a “rock hound” shortly before he retired. Every family member has semiprecious jewelry he gave to us on any and every birthday and Christmas. In retrospect, they have become very special treasures left behind for us.
Albert leaves his only daughter, Karen (Dr. Jon Nagel), their three children, Geoffrey (Giffney Lovelace) Nagel, Gretchen Nagel Barron, and Timothy (Katy Taylor), and great-grandchildren, Maddux Nagel, Vivian Nagel, and Grayson Nagel. Living members of Dr. Ronald Maddux’ family include his wife, Janie, their children, Melissa (Matt Vekasy), Jennifer (David) Skipper, Dr. Mike Maddux (Christin) and great-grandchildren, Will, Carson and Lukas (Vekasy), Matthew, Brandon, Blake and Lauren (Skipper), Wyatt and Everett (Maddux). He was predeceased by his parents, Albert Louis Maddux and Edna Amelia Waltz; sisters, Edna Patterson and Melba Clark. He is survived by his only brother, Dr. Ellsworth Maddux, and wife Carmenita.
His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Santa Rosa Hospital and Sandy Ridge for Rehabilitation and Healing in Milton, Florida for Albert’s compassionate care these last three months of his illness.
Private graveside services will be held for the family.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that everyone wear N-95 facemasks that cover the nose and maintain six-foot distances for others to help prevent more needless deaths.
Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel & Bayview Memorial Park is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be offered at www.bayviewfisher-pouchapel.com.
