Rosalind (“Roz”) Mary Soulam Hawk passed away on September 19th, 2020 at the age of 56 after a courageous three year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Above all, Roz was a faithful member of her church and a lifelong disciple of Jesus Christ. She had a deep love of learning and served as a teacher and mentor to countless friends, students and acquaintances. Her last months were spent offering counsel and support to the many individuals whose lives she had influenced. She was often described as a light by those who benefited from her many acts of service…a light that would shine to help those in need, and a light that was also comfortable allowing others to shine. If Roz was your advocate, you could not fail—she wouldn’t allow it.
Roz was born on January 5, 1964 in Hollywood, CA to Jacob Soulam and Frances Linda Holcomb. She grew up in Los Angeles and later Salt Lake City and served a mission in the Peru Arequipa mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her Hollywood beginnings foreshadowed a long career in the film and television industry after graduating from Brigham Young University with a BA in Theater and Film in 1990. Roz worked on over 100 film and television productions as an actress and casting director. She appeared as a SAG actress in productions like “Touched By an Angel,” “Promised Land” and the motion picture “A Home of Our Own” starring Kathy Bates. Roz also did casting for large-scale film productions for her church including “Testaments,” “Lamb of God” and “The Restoration” (see link below for full filmography).
In the middle of her thriving film career, Roz met her best friend and love of her life Jeffery David Hawk during a trip to Paris in 1997. Roz and Jeff were married in the Salt Lake City Temple in March 1999 and were true partners in life sharing a mutual love of travel, art, family and friends. Roz and Jeff’s adventures with their children included elephant rides in Cambodia, pyramid tours in Egypt and a seven year residence in Brussels, Belgium, which gave them lifelong friends across the globe. Upon returning to the US, the Hawks moved to Sudbury, Massachusetts and immediately became part of the community. Roz could be found vocally supporting her children at local sporting events, helping numerous local Scouts reach the rank of Eagle Scout, teaching early morning seminary classes for local teens and volunteering at Open Table, a food pantry in Maynard, Massachusetts.
Of her many roles, Roz loved being a mother most of all and her children were always her top priority. Roz is survived by her mother Frances Linda Holcomb Soulam, her husband Jeff and their three children: Jacob Soulam Hawk, Asher Den Hawk and Addyson Fleur Hawk. Services for Roz will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance is limited but a Zoom broadcast of the funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm Eastern Time. Please use the link below to participate:
