Lydia was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, big sister, aunt, cousin and friend, a
humanitarian, business woman and a really great cook. She was an awesome entertainer and
especially loved feeding family and friends at great big sit down dinners featuring her delicious
dishes.
An interior designer, Lydia founded and owned Bricole, a specialty store in Hubbard Woods,
Illinois that largely featured African and Asian furniture and artifacts. She then became the
owner of Casella Interiors following the death of her mother, Eleanor Rhoades Patera. Lydia’s
home in the Ravinia section of Highland Park, Illinois reflected her style and highlighted vintage
furnishings, primitive and one of a kind pieces, and eclectic collections including an enormous
array of uniquely decorative eggs, all complemented by husband Scott’s fine cabinet work.
Lydia's love of cooking also led her to oversee the Ravinia Farmers Market for approximately
seven years.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Smyth Patera and Eleanor Rhoades
Patera. She is survived by her husband, R. Scott Davis, children, Catherine Cherry, Edward
Davis and adopted son, Derrick Irvin, granddaughter, Sophia Cherry, sisters, Elizabeth Bensinger
and Mary Patera, brothers, Edward (Ellen), Matthew (Robin) and Nicholas (Amy),
step-grandchildren, Nicholas Bamert, Matthew Bamert and their dad Tony Bamert, as well as
many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Due to Covid-19, there are no funeral plans. Following the pandemic, a celebration of Lydia’s life
will be planned.
