It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Martin Rogers, age 91, of Nashville, TN on Saturday, September 26, 2020. She was born March 12, 1929 to Gilbert Edward and Sadie Lee Martin. She married the love of her life, Walter Eugene Rogers, in December 1947 and they spent 55 years together before his passing. She spent many of her years raising her four children as well as caring for her mother, aunts, and grandchildren. She was a dedicated secretary at Wade Elementary as well as Jordonia Elementary and found joy in assisting the children. She volunteered much of her time at the United Methodist Women’s club and taught children at the Scottsboro United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader of biographies and found special delight in playing piano through all seasons of her life.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Martin (wife Francis); children Sharon Work (husband James), Martin Rogers (wife Nancy), Carol Malone, and Don Rogers; grandchildren Laura Chambers (husband Christopher), Rachel Shore (husband Brian), Walter Malone (wife Amanda), Catherine Martin (husband Matthew), Zane Malone (wife Lora), and Hannah Malone; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Sadie Martin, husband, Walter Rogers, brother Doug Martin, and son-in-law David Malone.
Visitation will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 9:00am. Chapel service will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to Scottsboro United Methodist Church.
