Edward Leonard Holey, age 83, of Byron, died Thursday, October 1, 2020 at his home. Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Douglas (Kathy Jessmon) Holey, Joyce (John) Flaherty, Marylyn Fournier, and Scott Holey; his seven grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; his brother, Hazen (Betty) Holey; his sister, Grace Rosin; his favorite aunt, Alice Patterson; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Edward was born March 24, 1937, in Bedford, and raised in Union Lake, Michigan. He worked as a member of the Local 687 Union Carpenters for over fifty years. After retiring, he loved to travel with his beloved wife Joan to their favorite southern destinations in a motorhome. In his free time, Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering around his yard, pond, and pole barn, as well as watching old Western movies with his cat, Moe.
Edward proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He had great work ethic, which he passed down to his children. He loved spending time making memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edward was known as a saver, a minimalist, and like a typical Holey, he loved to argue. He will be greatly missed by his siblings, family, and friends.
Edward was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan (Kostansek) Holey; his parents, Sherman and Grace; his son-in-law, James Fournier; and his siblings: May Ruth Rock, Patsy Lawe, Sherman Holey, Jr., and Lucy Reno.
Edward will be laid to rest at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442.
