Walter “Wally” Helmut Mayer, of Dexter, passed away Sunday October 4, 2020. He was 89 years old.
Born January 27, 1931 in Ann Arbor, he was the son of August and Mary Louise Mayer. A lifelong resident of Dexter, Walter served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He had an amazing mind, loved people and conversations with people and family. He was an avid model train collector, he was mesmerized and in awe of the stars and space. He enjoyed attending the art fair and spending time with his family on his farm, or driving his convertible Thunderbird. He was a big John Mayer fan.
Walter is survived by his niece, Victoria L. Rushton and her husband Rob of Ann Arbor as well as two great nephews Ricky and Ryder Rushton.
He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Lou Darwin and his parents.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2020 at St. Andrews Cemetery in Dexter at 2:00 pm.
