Hubert Melvin Gardner Jr was born May 28, 1939, 1 of 12 children to the parents of Hubert Melvin Gardner Sr. and Beatrice Gardner. Melvin was born in Sugar Ridge in Ellis County. He was educated in Ellis County.
At an early age he was a member of the Zion Chapel Baptist Church in Bristol TX, where his mom and dad were members along with his sisters and brothers. He was still a member until his death led by Rev. LL Gardner.
He was employed in the early 60’s at Fritz chemical Company for many many years, that’s when he met Hattie Sue Broadnax which became his wife until her death in 2012. He was also employed at Buckla Lou Cement Company until he retired.
His hobby was playing dominoes and bragging about winning and raising his grandchildren and great grandchildren, which he loved to do and loved cooking.
Proceed him in death, 2 sons: Rodney Gardner and James Earl Gardner, Baby Joy Collins. 3 sisters: Joshafine Hines, Shirley Allen and Patricia Artis, 4 brothers: Willie Gardner, Douglas Gardner, Nathaniel Gardner and Floyd Bowman.
He leaves behind to mourn his death daughter’s: Tina Spencer (Willie), Ennis, TX, Donna Gardner, Garland, TX, Felisha Gardner, Garland TX, Phyllis Johnson, Desoto, TX, Donna Broadnax, Lancaster, TX, and Tracie Broadnax, Lancaster, TX. Sons: Kenneth Broadnax, Melvin F. Gardner, Dallas, TX, Darren Gardner, Dallas, TX, Cory Broadnax, Dallas, TX. Over the years he raised in his home Trina Chandler(Brailey), Ennis, TX, ZanCoria Broadnax and Bethany Polk of Dallas, TX. Melvin has 17 grandchildren,15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. 2 sisters: Earline Mc Farland (Rev. Julius), and Peggy Winded. 3 brothers: Jimmy Gardner (Loyce), Tommy Gardner (Kay), and Earnest Gardner (Brenda). A host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
