Jerry was born on April 16, 1932 in Chicago, IL. He attended Oak Park High School and graduated from Elmhurst College where he played basketball for two seasons. He met his life long love, Marty, in 1952. They spent the last year of Jerry's Army career in Newfoundland, Canada. He and Marty moved to Louisville in 1968 where they remained.
He served with the Army during the Korean War on a Naval base in Newfoundland, Canada. Jerry was a member of the American Legion Post # 180. He retired from G.E. after 37 years of service where he was a financial manager. Following retirement, he served as President of MFS Inc. for several years. He was a lifelong sports fan, active in coaching and supporting youth sports. He was a co-founder of Louisville's first American Legion baseball team. Jerry has always been involved in Bible classes and volunteer work at Our Savior Lutheran Church. He was a devoted family man.
Jerry is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marty, and his parents, Jerome and Helen Belza.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Jim Belza (Karyl), John Belza (Debbie), Dr. Rob Belza (Mary Beth) and Kathy Lewis (Dave). Jerry is also survived by his grandchildren, Sam, Ruthie, Mike (Stephanie), Tom (Leigh), Max (Hanna), Leah, Joey (Emma), Danny Belza, Brett , Jordan (Elizabeth), Peyton and Matthew Lewis; great granddaughters, Brooklyn, Blakely, Maxie and Mila Belza. He is also survived by his sister, Marleen Hunter.
A private family service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 8305 Nottingham Parkway, Louisville, KY 40222, with entombment to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens East. A public celebration of Jerry's Life will be held at a later date.
