He had taken the day off of work to finish the beautiful gate he built around their family garden in his St. Paul home he shared with his beloved wife and two children. Timothy graduated from Woodbury High School in 1998 and was active in band and became captain of the Woodbury High School Swim Team. After high school, Timothy studied Biology at St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota. He went on to earn several master degrees, first studying at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania before transferring to The University of Minnesota, Duluth where he received a Master’s in Biology and met the true love of his life, fellow graduate student, Valerie Gamble.
The two were married in summer 2010 in front of family and friends at The Como Park Conservatory. After graduating from the University of Minnesota Duluth, Tim and Val settled in a beautiful home in a historic St. Paul neighborhood. They enjoyed working on their home and he taught Biology at Inver Hills Community College. Timothy and Val have two children, Lidia Rose and Finley Skye. His friends describe Tim's children as "Tim’s Beethoven’s 5th," as his love for his children was an extension of the deep love Val and Tim shared. Val and the kids were his entire world, pride and joy. Being a father was his greatest life accomplishment.
After starting his family, Tim pursued a career in computer programing at Wex Health in Edina, MN as a Systems Analyst until his death. He enjoyed the team at Wex. His coworkers greatly contributed to his job satisfaction.
Timothy lived his 40 years with his priorities in order. He treasured his family and friends dearly. Valerie and Timothy loved to travel and enjoy nature-he treasured the Boundary Waters, North Shore, Duluth and all the Minnesota State Parks. Timothy was passionate about live music. He attended numerous shows with his best friend Christopher Graham, including countless concerts from R.E.M., to Springsteen, and the band they saw most was the Minneapolis-based, Jayhawks. Chris claims they saw so many shows, they lost count. Timothy loved The Minnesota Twins and the St. Paul Saints. Timothy and Val also attended Minnesota Orchestra concerts and enjoyed all the theater the Twin Cities had to offer with family.
Tim will continue to be a huge part of his family and friends’ lives for years to come through the impact and values he lived. He is preceded in death by his sister, Beth Ann McAulay, grandparents Emil and Phyllis Bartylla, and Grandmother Mary McAulay. He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Gamble and their children Lidia and Finley; parents, Deborah and Michael McAulay; Sister, Rebecca (Jerry) Roe Rutgers; Nephews, Owen and Wyatt Roe; mother-in-law, Marilynn Curtis, father-in-law, Timothy (Karolyn Bertelson) Gamble; sister-in-law, Allison Gamble (Michael Worland); Grandfather, Gerald McAulay; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
To quote the Jayhawk's Gary Loris "I don't know what day it is, I can't recall the seasons, And I don't remember how we got this far, All I know is I'm loving you for all the right reasons, In my sky, you'll always be my morning star.” You were so many people's morning star.
