(Retired Region of Durham 45 plus years)
Peacefully, with his family by his side, on October 8, 2020. Loving husband of Vickie Goddard. Son of Elsa Goddard (nee Cardinal), and the late John Goddard "Jack". Will be dearly missed by siblings Pam (Rudy Sakovic), Sandra (Colin Moore), Nancy (Tim Hardie), and Doug (Karen Goddard). Loving father of Kristen Taylor (Curtis), Kelly Goddard (partner Roy Gibson), Robbie Goddard (Kayla). Loved Grandpa to Tori, Kaydince, Jackson, Logan, Chelsea, Katelyn, Brady, and Adelyn. Cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Rob spent most of his youth growing up in Ajax Ontario. He loved playing competitive sports; the rougher the better: hockey lacrosse, football and baseball.
Once he graduated highschool, he took a job with the CIBC bank as a Manager in training. When the Region of Durham was formed, he was hired at a junior position and with hard work and dedication, Rob worked his way up to a Supervisor in the Works Department. He retired after 45 years of service.
In July 1979 he met the love of his life Vickie. They were married on November 22nd, 1980 and raised 3 incredible children: Kristen, Kelly and Robbie Jr. Once the children were old enough to play sports he coached each of them at one time or another; The girls with the Darlington soccer league, Robbie with the Darlington soccer league and hockey with the Toros. He also in his spare time, officiated men’s hockey at Art Thompson arena in Pickering for many years.
As the children became teenagers, the Goddard door was always open for anyone to come to visit, have dinner, snacks or stay for a while if they needed a place to crash. He was “Dad” to so many. He never hesitated to offer advice if he thought it was needed (or not at times!).
Once the children were adults, Rob continued to support their activities by attending their soccer and hockey games. He was a strong force on the sidelines and in the stands of the hockey rink.
Then along came the grandchildren; He was one proud Papa. He carried many photos in his wallet of each of them, pulling them out to share with everyone he met. The pride in his face shone brightly as he attended soccer and hockey games, dance recitals, school activities and any other activity he could. Even through all his illnesses, he seldom missed a special game or event.
Family was the most important thing in his life. He loved his siblings dearly and held a special bond with his mom. He was the best husband, father, papa, son, brother and friend anyone could ask for.
Rob, you will be missed by so many people. We love you and we will watch for the signs that you are watching over us.
Like your grandchildren say, “now you can be in heaven with your dad watching over us.”
We love you!
A private family visitation was held at the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, (1587 Highway #2, Courtice 905-432-8484). A Celebration of Life will be held in approximately one-year time to honour Rob.
