Richard Francis Fisher of Pelham AL passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2020 after a valiant battle with cancer.Richard was an intelligent, fun loving compassionate person who always lent a helping hand and was a friend to all. He had a strong work ethic and always gave 100% to any endeavor. He was a man who loved God, his family and his friends in that order. He was also just a big kid who loved to play games, tease his family and friends and enjoy a good laugh. Richard was a caring, loving father who taught his children great life lessons through his example.He made life so much fun they didn’t realize they were learning. He left them a legacy of love, faith and charity. He was was a strong person who never gave up on any cause.
Born August 4,1942 in Rockville Centre NY to Joseph and Eileen Talty Fisher , Richard grew up in a large family with 7 brothers and sisters in Freeport NY. He graduated from Chaminade High School and Adelphi University. After serving in the US Army during the Vietnam War, he became a CPA who worked as an IRS agent and as a corporate accountant for JA Jones and BE&K/KBR construction and engineering companies.
He met and married the love of his life Wanda on May 12, 1979 and they had 4 children: Caroline, Peter, Suzanne and Gregg.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Oak Mountain Missions and the Sertoma Club.
Richard loved to volunteer his time helping others and he was active in feeding ministries such as Changed Lives, Bread and Roses, and Haiti Mission trips. He was actively involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and activities and coached soccer.
Richard had a generous heart and was beloved by his family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Eileen Fisher, Richard leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years Wanda Smith Fisher; children, Caroline (Bo), Peter (Kate), Suzanne, Gregg (Eleanore); grandchildren, Aidan, Caleb, Ean, Merrin, Emilia, Sam, Kai and Zen; nieces, Morgan McKown, Tina Frey, Theresa Fisher, Jennifer Schleigh and Rachel Palisin ; nephews, Christopher Frey, Michael Fisher, Alexander Fisher, and Rob Frey; brothers and sisters, Patricia Fisher Frey, Betty Fisher, John Fisher (Maggie), Timothy Fisher (Nancy), Hugh Fisher (Jennifer), Kathleen Fisher McKown, J.Peter Fisher.
A life well lived, he will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace in God’s loving mercy.
