Marjorie Alyce White Fogerson died peacefully in her husband’s arms on Saturday, October 10th, 2020. She left the faithful, loving arms of her husband to be at home in heaven; safe in the arms of Jesus.
Psalm 116:15 – “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants.” In their passing He welcomes them home. She had spoken of the comfort and joy in knowing that she soon would be joined by her “faithful, devoted, loving husband, Dave. They celebrated many years of a loving marriage which began on August 11, 1957. Their five-year anniversary gift was the gift of their precious daughter, Juliana Lynn Fogerson, August 11, 1962.
Marjorie thanks her parents for giving her a loving life which included a beautiful understanding of John 3:16 and taught her on the word “whosoever” she should put in Marjorie. He suffered, died, and rose again for her! She accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 16. From then on she lived with Jesus guiding her mind and directing her footsteps.
Marjorie greatly enjoyed her friendship with all 16 students as she went through 8th, 9th. 10th, 11th, and 12th grades with her graduating class.
The Lord was in charge of her life and led her to Peru State Teacher’s College. She met two wonderful people there: Colleen Bates who was her roommate and an upper classman to show her around, and Evelyn Freidenberg Giittinger. She became a lifelong friend until her death in January 2020.
Marjorie attended P.S.T.C. for three summers; 1952, 1953, and 1954 earning one year of college while teaching full time.
Christmas vacation of 1953, she was treated to a trip to the San Fernando Valley where her aunt and uncle lived in California.
She was introduced to the Superintendent of the newly formed Christian Day Schools. Mr. Abramson was very interested in Marjorie and arranged for an interview.
She had taught her first year in a rural school with nine students. She had signed a contract to get a school closer to home. The second year in a rural school she had 16 students and all grades. She had to prepare the 8th grade students for the county exams so they could attend a high school in their district.
The Lord arranged for her to move to California living with her aunt and uncle and a teaching position about eight miles from their home. She was to have a 2nd grade classroom consisting of 30 students at the Lindley Avenue Baptist Day School. The Lord and I breezed through the year, and another, and a third year.
We had a teacher who had need of a long term substitute. A friendship quickly developed with the sub and she inquired if I was dating anyone. Her best friend was this guy’s mother.
She prepared a dinner for his twin brother and his wife, his parents, and Dave. It just came natural for Dave to be considerate, helpful, and fun as we played croquet. He was the perfect one to show her the ropes of enrolling in college in California.
CSUN was just being built and after they were married on August 11, 1957 she enrolled and was graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and her Lifetime Teaching Credential.
She was a teacher, vice principal, and principal during her 28 years of teaching.
She was always a Nebraskan at heart! She loved the prairie and the song of the Meadowlark! Her favorite memory was to fix a sandwich, to grab a book that she had started, and along with Laddie, their loving, faithful Husky dog they walked down the cattle lane to the pasture. She found her favorite place to sit beside the gulley in the shade of the large oak tree, which seemed to guard the prairie, the gulley, and the area around. All alone with her book (probably Harold Bell Wright, Bess Streeter Aldrich, or Louisa May Alcott). She read and reflected on how He chose to direct her life.
A word to my family: Oh! How I love all of you! If you’ve accepted what Jesus did for you on the cross, then He’s your Savior and the director of your life. He wants you to follow the events and sign posts He places along the pathway of life. Psalm 16:11 KJV – Thou wilt show me the path of life, in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. KJV
Take time to have a moment with Him each morning, then He is the director of events that happen through the day – and remember: Jesus never makes a mistake! “Where He leads me I will follow!”
Marjorie’s family includes: Her dearly, beloved husband David W. Fogerson, Jr., whom I thank for loving and forgiving me through the “trials of life”.
Our precious daughter, Juliana Lynn Fogerson Dillon who at the age of five accepted the Lord Jesus guided by Mrs. Hindalong, her kindergarten teacher. She was given the gift of teaching following in the footsteps of both her grandmothers and her mother. Juliana has taught years and continues to be an excellent teacher.
She was married to Lon Dillon on July 9, 2012 at a beautiful beach wedding in Hawaii. Lon had accepted the Lord as his Savior.
Our Dillon Lane accepted Jesus as his Savior on our anniversary and his mother’s birthday on August 11, 2000, at a camp at Hume Lake. He brought to our family, his wife, Vera Casilia Barillas Lane who has the gift of helping others and being thoughtful of others’ needs.
To them God has entrusted three beautiful children to teach of God’s love for us. To memorize John 3:16 and to substitute your name for “whomsoever”.
The oldest born June 20, 2009 is Cassidy Cecilia Lane who resembles her grandmother, Juliana. The middle is a son, Noah Edward Wisdom Lane. Noah was born on January 30, 2014.
Their youngest was born on February 24, 2019. He has the same birthday as the friend who introduced Dave and Marjorie! He is just a little guy who is very happy to be here! His name is Levi Edgar Wisdom Lane. Vera gave birth to another daughter, Miley Ailani Barillas who is 14 years old and is a student at Portola Junior High.
Cody Jake Banks was born on March 19, 1994. He was graduated from Van Nuys High School and has worked with the studios as a lighting technician. He was graduated from California Institute of the Arts in 2019. On a trip he had taken with us to our home in Prescott, he interrupted his playtime to say “I want to accept Jesus.” We prayed! He memorized 10 versus and took them home in a booklet. He was four years old. Jesse John Banks was born on July 7, 1997. He went camping with his mother at the Verdi Valley Thousand Trails. This was the second week in July. He asked his mother to help him accept Jesus. They prayed together. So each of the boys have their own birthday and also their own “Jesus” birthday.
We have been blessed to help raise three grandsons and especially blessed to have three great grandchildren whom we notice bear resemblances to family members! We have been especially honored at the events we have attended at Candi and Mike’s home. It was a joy to share Helen’s 80th birthday at their home! It was a joy to host lunch with Annett and David William. We were pleased to have Helen, Dave’s twin brother’s wife join us at our home in Grandview Terrace.
1 Corinthians 15:51 KJV – “Behold, I show you a mystery. Earth recedes, heaven is opening, and God is calling me!!!!
