James Gomila Wingerter Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, October 10, 2020. He had just made his 81st birthday. Beloved husband of Myra Steppe Wingerter for over 58 years. Loving father of James G. Wingerter Jr. (Michelle), Louis P. Wingerter (Terry), and Jane W. Haynie (Phillip). Grandfather of Claire Wingerter, Jonathan Wingerter, Ashley Wingerter, Heather Haynie, Braxton Haynie, Meredith Wingerter, and Jamie Wingerter. Son of the late Philip and Dorothy Wingerter Sr. Brother of the late Philip Wingerter Jr. (Barbara), Jack Wingerter (Joyce), and Dorothy Toranto (Rudy). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. James was born in Port Sulphur, and spent most of his childhood and early life in Gentilly. He graduated from Cor Jesu High School and Northeast Louisiana University. He joined the family business of G&W Drugs, located in Gentilly and Slidell. In 1984, he joined Eckerd’s (which later became CVS Pharmacy), and retired after 20 years of service. After retirement, he worked for several years part-time at the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in LaPlace. He was a member of the Krewe of Thoth from 1997 until 2002. He and Myra were recent parishioners at St. Anselm in Madisonville. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Red Cross or Catholic Charities, benefitting hurricane relief. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at GRACE FUNERAL HOME, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, on Saturday afternoon, October 17, 2020 at 12:30. Visitation will begin at 11:00 in the morning. Interment will follow in the adjacent St. Lazarus of Bethany Memorial Garden.
