John D. Hill, M.D. was affiliated with Scripps Encinitas and Scripps La Jolla for 43 years and was a Distinguished Fellow of the American Board of Family Practice. He was the first Chair of Family Practice at Scripps Encinitas and the Medical Director of Scripps Oceanview Convalescent Hospital for many years. In 2004, he was named a “Top Doc” by his peers and San Diego Magazine. Dr. Hill was a graduate of USC Keck School of Medicine, and an intern at USC LA County Medical Center before completing his Family Practice Residency at UC Irvine.
Dr. Hill dedicated himself to his medical practice and remained an active, exceptional family physician until just days before his death. He helped his patients through the COVID-19 pandemic, remaining a reassuring voice on the phone through a fearful time.
He met his wife, Ann, in a class on USC’s main campus during his first year of medical school, when she was an undergraduate at USC. That was 50 years ago, and they celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on September first. He is also survived by their two children, Jeff and Emily, and three grandchildren, of which he was so very proud.
Dr. Hill was born in the State of Washington and grew up in Los Angeles. His medical practice was in Encinitas for 20 years and then in Solana Beach for 23 years.
Due to the health risks of the COVID-19 pandemic, no memorial service is planned.
