Mrs. Brown graduated from Gaffney High School in 1955, then continued her education at Winthrop University and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and the National Honor Society.
She married her high school sweetheart, Milton Brown, on January 28, 1959, and they lived in Clemson, SC until May 1959. Mrs. Brown worked as a Home Demonstration Agent while Milton completed his Electrical Engineering degree. Upon Milton’s commission in the U.S. Air Force, they moved to College Station, TX, for Milton to study meteorology and were transferred to Charleston Air Force Base Weather Service in 1961, where Mrs. Brown taught school at Albemarle Elementary School in Charleston, SC. June and Milton lived in Raleigh, NC for a number of years before settling into the Cayce/West Columbia area.
They attended State Street Baptist Church and Eagle’s Faith Tabernacle in West Columbia. Mrs. Brown was a dedicated, selfless, loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.
She enjoyed cooking, crafting, decorating, and music. June made family holidays and birthdays extra special with her creativity and extra dose of love.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Brown Hennessee (Kevin) of Leesville, SC, and Laura Brown McMickens (Chip) of West Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Kristan Hennessee Hinson (Blaine), Brendan Hennessee (Tina), Ben McMickens, and Will McMickens; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, and Ella Hennessee; brother, Robert Turner (Vicki) of Chesnee, SC, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brown was predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years, Milton Brown and sister, Joyce Turner Peeler.
Mrs. Brown’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at Hands and Hearts Home Care for their compassion and steadfast support.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170 with burial at Southland Memorial Gardens.
