Anthony (‘Tony’) was born on December 14th, 1929 to Stella and Anthony Woznick on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, NY. The first 18 years of his life were spent exploring the great city of New York and enjoying the Boys’ Club of NY near his home. Tony is predeceased by his brothers Louis and Raymond Woznick.
Tony was an army veteran and spent a year on the DMZ during the Korean War. He was part of KNAG Korean military advisory group and always enjoyed meeting other veterans who served our country during the same conflict. Tony was a diehard New York sports fan and attended Giant, Yankee, and Ranger games whenever possible. As the years passed, the television became his connection to the sports world. Tony became the Chief of the David B. Roche fire department in Thiells, NY from 1986 to 1988. He committed his time and energy to this all-important service in our community.
His career reflects 12 years with the Erie Lackawanna Railway and 32 years at Hudson Photo in Irvington, NY.
Following retirement, Tony focused on his all-important vegetable garden and fought the woodchucks day and night to keep his garden whole! He traveled with his wife, Virginia, family and friends across this great nation. He especially looked forward to time at his condo in Saint Augustine, Florida. The beach was his favorite place on earth.
He is known for opening his home to family and friends. He treasured having many happy faces around his table on holidays and special occasions. Tony leaves behind his ‘charm’ of a wife Virginia Gail Woznick. They were married on October 15th, 1986 in Honolulu, Hawai’i. They returned to Hawaii 20 years later to celebrate the anniversary, which started it all.
Family was the most important thing in Tony’s life. He leaves behind daughters Wanda Mendillo and Joyce Back (Aaron). Grandsons Erik Mendillo (Lyndy), Frank Mendillo (Martina), and Anthony Mendillo (Bryce Breedyk). Granddaughters Sarah May (Matthew Hillman) and Sarina May (Marcus Polite). Great grandchildren Hannah Mendillo, Aiden Mendillo, Gianna Mendillo and Samantha Mendillo.
