She and her twin sister were born in Rockford, Illinois on November 11, 1951 to the late Everett Eugene and Josephine Maria (Grabania) Johnson. Christy graduated from Mendota Township High School in 1969, and had a Master’s Degree in Education from Western Illinois University. She was a retired elementary school teacher, and taught in both Illinois and Florida public schools. Over her 35-year teaching career, she taught hundreds to read and write. She married Jeffery Andrew Crum in 1982 and divorced in 2002. Christy and her family relocated from Illinois to Florida in 1999.
Christy can be described as fun, strong, and devoted. She had a strong circle of friends who can recount fun, silly stories of her life-giving presence. She was diagnosed with and beat breast cancer in 2008. Her family knew her for her unwavering support and unquestioning love. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, landscaping, and traveling. She enjoyed spending her mornings drinking coffee on her porch while talking to those she loved on the phone.
Christy is predeceased by her twin sister, Cynthia Campbell (July 5, 2018).
She is survived by her daughters, Megan Leigh Nelson of Orlando, Florida and Tara Ann Carroll of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandchildren, Cole Alexander James Nelson (age 7), Caleb Scott Nelson (age 5), and Brenna Josephine Carroll (age 2); sister, JoAnne Juettner of Phoenix, Arizona; nieces Claire Juettner of Scottsdale, Arizona and Vanessa Juettner of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; nephew Aaron Campbell of Sherman Oaks, California; and 5 great-nephews.
