James Lee “Jim” Green, 84, of Fredericksburg, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020. He was born in Columbus, Texas on September 24, 1936 to Rowan Eugene Green and Clara Litzmann Green. Jim was raised in Columbus and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He graduated from high school there in 1955. He attended Texas A&M University and Southwest Texas State before joining the army. He proudly served his country from 1958-1961 with a yearlong station in Korea. While in the service, he earned accolades for being a Rifle Sharpshooter. He met Kathleen “Kay” Diane Money in Red Bluff, CA and they were married November 11, 1962. Jim made a career as a Procurement Manager with Bechtel Corporation, where he proudly worked for over 30 years. This was a most proud accomplishment, and he cherished the gold Rolex that he was awarded for such dedicated service. Jim was always very civic minded serving his community as a water board member and one of the founding members of the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department.
In 1999, he and Kay retired and moved to Fredericksburg and realized his lifelong dream of building a true log home. He was a devoted husband to Kay, lovingly taking care of her until her passing in 2002. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting, and one of his favorite activities was watching as many of his grandchildren’s sports as he could, always bringing a fresh batch of “Papa’s Chocolate Chip Cookies.” Additionally, he was an avid Battlin’ Billies football season ticket holder! Jim was a loving partner, father, and friend. He thrived on serving others, always giving his best and loved to tell a quick joke to bring a smile.
Jim joined Bethany Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg and became an active member. He participated on Council, the Fellowship Committee, as a maintenance volunteer, and helped with mailing out the Bells newsletter. He loved to serve others with his cooking/baking skills, too. He made countless cookies for the Kairos Prison Ministry, loved making huge batches of chili for the Christmas Journey cast and crew, and preparing meals for Wednesday Lenten services. Jim was also an immensely proud member of the Gillespie County Republican Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Eugene Green, Jr., his wife, Kay, and their son Randolph James (Randy) Green. He is survived by his daughter Brenda Langford, her husband Lance, and their children Alyse Launius, her husband Dillon, Davis Langford, and Jake Langford. Additionally, he is survived by his close companion of over 16 years Linda Meier McCann.
