Edmund J. Miranda, Jr., age 71, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 2, 2020 at home in Indiantown, FL. He was the husband of Cynthia (Oliveira) Miranda to whom he had been married 42 years. They lived together in Somerset, MA for 40 years before recently retiring to FL.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Edmund Miranda and the late Lena (Cabral) Miranda.
Ed joined the US Army and served our country during the Vietnam War and was the former Commander at the Fall River VFW and a member of other local military organizations. He was a Deacon at the First Christian Congregational Church in Swansea and was instrumental in starting their Veteran Supper which has helped raise funds to help so many local Swansea Veterans. He was also a member of the Congregational Church of Somerset where he helped to start the Veterans Supper to help Somerset Veterans in need. He owned his own carpet cleaning business and later in life was the custodian at the Swansea Police Department before retiring. He never went into a bakery that he did not like and was a people person with a gift to gab and loved running into people he knew and catching up (and he seemed to know everyone). Ed enjoyed traveling and camping with his extended family.
Besides his devoted wife, Ed is survived by his children, Christine Miranda Levasseur, Edmund Miranda, Deborah Desjardins and her husband David, James (Buddy) Borden and Jason Borden. Ed’s greatest love was his grandchildren, Kayla Arruda, Kristalyn Loura and her fiancé Ryan Bows, Benjamin Simbro, Shaina Levasseur, Kiara Miranda, Shaylee Levasseur, and Sylis Smith. The oldest of 8 children, Ed also leaves behind his siblings, James, Richard and Robert Miranda, Nancy Preece and Carol Gouveia, as well as many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews who will also miss him. He was predeceased by his brothers Dennis Miranda and Joseph Miranda.
His Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 from 3:00-7:00 PM in Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St., Somerset. Due to current occupancy restrictions, please be mindful that guests may have to wait outside while others pay their respects. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s honor may be made to Swansea First Christian Congregational Church, 1113 GAR Hwy, Swansea, MA 02777, Attn: Veterans Supper, or to Congregational Church of Somerset, 1411 County St., Somerset, MA 02726, Attn: Veterans Supper. Ed loved to support these community suppers, give to local veterans in need and would love to still be making a difference.
