Gerald Paul Pickney was born February 14, 1957 in Lafayette, Louisiana to the parents of Elwis Johnson and Freddie Mae Pickney. Gerald was raised in Opelousas, Louisiana. Gerald was educated in the Opelousas School District. He graduated from Opelousas Sr. High School in 1976.
While in Opelousas, Gerald attended Holy Ghost Catholic Church. When Gerald moved to Houston, he attended Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Franklin Anderson. Gerald also attended Westminster Assembly Church in Linwood, Washington.
Gerald was a strong man full of compassion, a loving husband, a supportive father, and a great provider to his family. Gerald spent 30 years as a lead machinist with Hughes Tools Company in Houston, TX, and Jamco in Washington state. Gerald was an avid softball player throughout his life. He loved watching all kinds of sports, especially his beloved Seattle Seahawks football team and always made sure to wear their team colors during games. Gerald was an excellent cook and loved to cook for his family. The family loved when he cooked his famous barbeque. He was also a lover of music, especially rhythm and blues. He liked to attend live concerts and had a massive collection of vinyl albums back in the day before cassette tapes and cd’s became popular.
Gerald departed this life on Sunday, November 1, 2020. He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Freddie Mae Pickney-Thierry.
Gerald leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Patricia Pickney, one son - Nathan Earl Pickney (Yolanda), one daughter - Andrea Nicole Pickney, 2 stepdaughters, Latonya Denise Taylor and Marva Latrell Taylor (of Washington), six brothers, James Thierry (Martha) of Texas , David Pickney (Catrina) of Oklahoma), Bryan Pickney of Louisiana, Joseph Thierry (Delores) of Oklahoma, Harold Thierry, of Oklahoma, Valery Thierry (Shirley) of Louisiana, and a sister, Marilyn Richardson (Jo) of Oklahoma , 1 loving uncle and aunt - Billy Pickney and Joy Bertrand of Louisiana, Nine (9) Grandchildren, Two (2) great-grandchildren, and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
