Marilyn Jean (Venell) Hanson passed away peacefully on November 4th, 2020. She was 86 years old. She was a loving devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and servant of the Lord.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Albert Richard Hanson who passed away on August 10th. She is also preceded in death by her father George Maurice Venell, her mother Agnes Dorothy (Anderson) Venell and her sister Shirley Ann Espel.
She is survived by her four children: Mark Hanson (wife – Katherine), Lori Casteel (husband – Rob), Sara Hanson and Leanne Gallagher (husband John); her nine grandchildren: Andrew Hanson (wife – Jackie), Eric Hanson, Amanda (Casteel) Sinner (husband – Randy), Robert Casteel, Eli Casteel (wife – Kirin), Kristen Daschofsky (husband – Ashley), Dani Gallagher, Luke Gallagher and Alexa Gallagher; and four great-grandchildren: Abigail Hanson, Jackson Sinner, Khloe Fredericksen and Brody Daschofsky.
Marilyn was born in Kewanee, Illinois on March 27th, 1934, where she grew up and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1952. She went on to college in Rock Island and graduated from Augustana College in 1956 with a degree in Math and minor in Physics and began working at Argonne Laboratories. She married Al and lived in Chicago, Illinois; Portland, Oregon; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Southern California; Dallas, Texas and Spokane, Washington. After staying home to raise her children, Marilyn went to work at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and was volunteer coordinator at Emmanuel Hospital; she then went to work for Tektronix and later became a Software Engineer/Technical Writer.
Outside of work, Marilyn was always active with the church. She served as Organist and Choir Director for many years at St. Andrew Lutheran in Portland. She loved to sing in the choirs at the churches they attended.
Thanks to all the many caregivers that have helped Mom and Dad over the past few years, particularly those at the Ackerly Senior Living Center and from Bristol Hospice.
