Salomon Arias was born in Mariquita, Colombia on January 1, 1927 to Maria and José Facundo Arias Gomez. There he worked at Banco De Colombia, and later at Laminas Del Caribe, and was a Founding Member of The Gideons in Barranquilla, Colombia.
After facing rampant anti-evangelical discrimination, Salomón moved to the United States in 1966. He was a dedicated husband, a loving father, and an entertaining grandfather, known by his grandchildren as “Owito,” and “Toto” by his great-grandchildren. He was known for his unwavering faith and conviction, as well as his passion for holistic medicine. He worked as a longshoremen for 30 years, and upon retiring, he was ordained as a minister in the Mennonite Church, and served the Lord as Pastor of Iglesia De Efesios Menonita in Manhattan, NY until his second retirement several years ago when his health made it impossible to travel by subway.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Betty, his brothers, José and Davíd, his sisters, Merceditas, Elizamita, Cecilita, Inezita, Isabelita, and Georginita, a daughter, Beticita and a son in law, Terry Haskins.
He is survived by his Brother Jorge, Sister Marujita, his children, Alvaro Arias, Isabel (Neal) McFadden, Felipe (Jamie) Arias, and Gloria (Terry [dec.]) Haskins.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Salomon (Amy), Alexandra, Natalie (Christopher), Isabella, Stuart, Gracie, David (Marett), Bryan (Gabryel), Hayden and Harlan, as well as great-grandsons Jett, and Rook, and great-granddaughter Mckensie.
Services will be held Graveside at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 1 Pine Knoll Dr. Greenville, SC on Friday, Nov. 13 at 3PM.
