Robert was born December 19, 1931. Robert and Lillian Nelson (deceased) raised three children, Debra Jarrett (Doug), Bob Jr. (Lisa) and Sharon Mason.
Our Daddy, Grandpa and Peepaw, Robert Nelson was always a good Christian example to his family over these many years. He always had a positive attitude and a great sense of humor and always kept us laughing.
They were blessed with four Grandchildren, Wyatt Jarrett (Michelle), Brian Jarrett, Bobby Nelson III, Heather Hays. They were blessed even more with two Great Grandchildren, Brie Jarrett and Max Nelson.
Robert Nelson was born at home at 1011 Joseph Place, Memphis, Tennessee,. on December 19, 1931. His parents were William T. Nelson and Willie Lucille Holcombe Nelson.
Robert Nelson attended Humes High School where he played football. After High School graduation, he married Lillian Frazier. They were married 68 years until her death in August 2019. They were members of Eastside Baptist Church. Robert served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War stationed in Japan. His job was repairing bullet holes on damaged airplanes with tin cans or any scrap metal they could find. After the Korean War he worked in heating and air conditioning as sheet metal worker. In 1975 he was voted in as Business Representative for the local Sheet Metal Union and also served as Business Manager/Financial Secretary until he retired in 1993 after serving Local #4 for 18 years. Robert was an avid deer and turkey hunter and fisherman up until 78 years old. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially University of Tennessee.
Since May of 2019, Bobby has lived at Quail Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Bartlett, Tennessee. Bobby was known for his contagious smile, sense of humor and a “thumbs Up”.
A visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, November 14 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119. Robert's funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm following the visitation. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 1 at 10:15 am in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene, Memphis, TN 38125.
