Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John and Theresa (Femino) Celona; devoted father to Donna St. Pierre and her husband Harold, Cynthia Brazell and her husband Randy, Paul Celona and his late wife Zelia and Joanne J. Celona; cherished grandfather of Harold, Daniel, Joshua, Samuel, Thomas, Ryan, and the late Rebecca; great-grandfather of Liam, Pierce, John, Darcy and Layla; brother of the late Paula Lupoli and Antonina Celona and former husband of the late Lorraine (Dupre) Celona.
Following graduation from North Providence High in 1951, Joe began a 20+ year career at RI Cinder Block Company, a family business. He joined the USAF in 1952 remining stateside until being deployed to Japan until 1956.
Upon return to civilian life, he resumed his career at RI Cinderblock company until it was sold in 1976. From that point until retirement in 2007 he held various positions including Tri Town, Rise, and G Tech corporation.
Joe was an active member and former past president of the Marieville Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and served as assistant scoutmaster, cubmaster, and Scoutmaster for Troop 5 spanning 17 years.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Thursday, 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the PONTARELLLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in The Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1081 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be private.
