On Monday, November 9, 2020, Clinton Calhoun Jr. departed his life to an eternal rest. Clinton was born on July 21, 1928, in Bunkie, Louisiana to the parents of Clinton and Lucile Calhoun. After graduating from Peabody High School in Alexandria, LA, Clinton moved north with family in search of a better opportunity. He eventually settled in Lorain, Ohio. There, he found work at National Tube Co. (U.S. Steel plant). While working, he was drafted into the Korean War in 1950. He served two years in the Army and was Honorably Discharged. Upon his return to civilian life, he continued his career working for U.S. Steel where he retired after 38 years.
During his golden years, Clinton enjoyed a quiet yet productive retirement lifestyle. He dedicated much of his time serving his community as a Jehovah’s Witness, teaching the word to others and hosting Bible study sessions at his home. He was a big family man, frequently traveling to attend family functions, such as graduations, reunions, and weddings during joyous times, and funerals during times of sorrow. He was a warm, kind spirited, humble gentleman who was always there for his family and friends. He was well known and respected throughout the Lorain, OH community, and usually sought to provide advice, a kind word, and helping hand.
In his past time, Clinton enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching the news, sports & game shows, and attending sporting events. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavaliers. He enjoyed spending early morning hours sipping on coffee while reading the newspaper. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, Kingdom Hall family, and other relatives.
He's survived by his brother, Moses Calhoun, his seven children: Kathleen Calhoun-Smith, Charles Calhoun, Anthony Calhoun, Clinton Calhoun III, Zachary S. Calhoun, Jennifer Sutton, and Pamela Sutton; Tangie Calhoun-Jackson; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clinton was a hero that will be forever missed.
Clinton is preceded in death by his father Clinton Calhoun Sr, mother Lucile Calhoun, brother Jonas Calhoun, sisters Willa Horace, Sadie Moss, Effie Taylor, and Kathryn Chapel; John (Bud) Calhoun; and three former wives, Sarah, Leola, and Miriam.
Family and friends may visit Clinton Calhoun Jr. on Friday, November 20, 2020 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Laurel Land Funeral Home.
